AMU denies receipt of any letter from CVC

ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University has denied receipt of any letter from the Central Vigilance Commission against the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, as reported in today’s newspaper.

Mr. Khaliquzzaman, a retired Section Officer at AMU had reportedly made an online complaint to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) through the “Public Grievance Portal” seeking redressal of his grievances. The University has already responded to his complaint by uploading its replies on the portal.
University Registrar, while disposing off the complaint made by Mr. Khaliquzzaman, said that the complaint was misconceived and motivated as the complainant, Mr. Khaliquzzaman, was restrained from visiting any section/cell/unit in the offices situated in the premises of the Administrative Block due to his nefarious activities in the past against the interests of the University. In this connection, a notification was made by the Registrar on September 9, 2014.
Refuting the allegations made by Mr. Khaliquzzaman, the University has informed the Ministry of Human Resource Development that Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah was appointed as the Vice Chancellor, AMU by the President of India, in her capacity as the Visitor of the University.
It may be noted that the writ petition of Syed Abrar Ahmad, the petitioner has made the Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah as Respondent No. 3, apart from the University Grants’ Commission (UGC) and the Visitor of the University, as is the practice in almost all writ petitions filed against the University.
In order to defend the appointment orders of the Vice Chancellor by the Visitor of the University, the AMU engaged two senior advocates, Mr. Shams Khwaja and Mr. Shashi Nandan, in view of their expertise in such cases, and payments were made to them accordingly. The University has made it clear that only Rs. 2.5 lacs were paid to this effect.
AMU further clarified that it is not the first instance of hiring multiple lawyers by the University in such cases. In the past also, the University took services of Mr. Rajeev Dhawan and Mr. Siddhartha Shakar Ray, senior advocates of the Supreme Court of India to defend cases pertaining to the Minority status of the University at Allahabad High Court in the year 2005 and paid them engagement/appearance fees.
