Seven-day Yoga Workshop at AMU

Aligarh:The Department of Physical Education, Aligarh Muslim University recently started a seven-day ‘Workshop on Yoga’ at. The Workshop, which will end on June 5 has been organized as part of ‘International Yoga Day’ celebrations. Around hundred participants from different schools, colleges and departments of AMU participated in the Inaugural ceremony of the workshop.

AMU refutes Mr. Ashraf Mateen’s charges

ALIGARH: The Aligarh Muslim University has taken strong note of the ranting by Mr. Ashraf Mateen, Assistant Professor, Department of Petroleum Studies and Joint Secretary of the AMU Teacher’s Association (AMUTA), who, through emails to various AMU Alumni networks, has been trying to malign University authorities on the basis of unfounded allegations.

Research scholars’ agitation ends

ALIGARH:The Aligarh Muslim University research scholars have withdrawn their Dharna protest at Bab-e-Syed today following positive efforts by the University authorities to end the impasse.
AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali presided over a meeting of the Deans of Faculties after which the Vice Chancellor constituted a committee of Deans to consider the problems faced by the research scholars.

Dr Ali present paper in International Conference in Tunisia

Aligarh: Dr Syed Ahmad Ali, Associate Professor with the Department of Geology, A M U recently presented a paper on ‘Particle strain from Proterozoic basement of Northern Indian Shield’ at  an International Conference on Applied Geology & amp; Environment’ organized by Association Tunisienne de Geologie Applique held at Mahdia in Tunisia.Dr Ali was the only delegate from India in the Conference which was attended by over 400 delegates, geologist and environmental scientists from various disciplines from different Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Turkey, Hungary, Armenia, France, and Italy.

Dr Husain presents paper in International Conference

Aligarh:Dr Arshad Husain, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, AMU recently presented a technical research paper in the 3rd International  Conference on 'Nanotechnology for better living (ICNBL 2016)' jointly organised by IIT, Kanpur and NIT, Srinagar at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.During the paper presentation, Dr Husain presented an overview of the role of Nanotechnology as a tool to control environmental pollution.

ALIGARH:Prof. C.P.S. Chauhan, former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Aligarh Muslim University has been nominated as the member of the Executive Council of  the Central University of South Bihar, Patna for a period of three years.

इग्नू सत्रांत परीक्षा 1 से 28 जून तक :डॉ चतुर्वेदी

अलीगढ़: इन्दिरा गॉंधी राष्ट्रीय मुक्त विश्वविद्यालय की सत्रान्त परीक्षा 1 जून से प्रारम्भ हो रही है और 28 जून तक चलेगी। विश्वविद्यालय द्वारा सम्पूर्ण देश में 886 परीक्षा केन्द्र स्थापित किये गये हैं जिनमें 5,55,223 परीक्षार्थी परीक्षा देगें। अलीगढ़ इग्नू क्षेत्रीय निदेशक डॉ अमित चतुर्वेदी ने बताया कि अलीगढ़ में सत्रांत परीक्षाएं 16 परीक्षा केन्द्रों पर सम्पन्न हो रही हैं जिसमें कुल 16,369 परीक्षार्थी सम्मिलित हो रहे हैं। अलीगढ़ में अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय, श्री वार्ष्णेय कॉलेज को परीक्षा केन्द्र बनाया गया है।

AMUTA opposed to promotion of teachers, new inductions and efforts to open secular schools in Muslim majority areas: AMU VC

ALIGARH:The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has been making consistent efforts to fill up the deficiency of teachers and give promotions to deserving ones who have worked for betterment of AMU. Regular Promotion Boards have been held and about 430 new teachers have been inducted in the last four years.

17th IIRS Outreach Special Course to be organized at AMU

ALIGARH:The Department of Geology, Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO), Dehradun is organizing the 17th IIRS Outreach Special Course on ‘Geoweb Services and Geoportal applications’ for the teachers and research scholars of different Institutes, Colleges and Universities as well as other working professionals. The duration of the course is June 28 to July 15.

AMU Board’s Class X Result announced

ALIGARH:The Aligarh Muslim University has announced the result of Board Examination of Class 10th for the first time on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) pattern of the Central Board of Secondary Education. The success rate of the students is 94.96%.
Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, Director, Directorate of Schools, AMU said that a total number of 1650 students, including boys and girls, appeared in the board examination from eight schools under AMU board.
Prof. Gulrez said that six students, who have secured 10.0 CGPA, include Amarsh Gautam and Gagan Mishra from AMU City School and Anjali Varshney, Injila Sajid, Juwairiya Iffat and Qudsia Khan from AMU Girls School. AMU Alumni of UAE to build Sheikh Zayad Complex at AMU

ALIGARH: “The AMU Alumni Forum, United Arab Emirates (UAE) will build a grand Sheikh Zayad Complex at the Aligarh Muslim University with a fund of Rs. 30 crore which is expected to be received from the President of UAE, H.H. Khalifa Bin Zayad Al Nahayan”, said Mr. S. M. Qutbur Rahman, President of the AMU Alumni Forum, UAE while welcoming guests to a grand International Mushaira organized by the Forum in Dubai recently.

AMU to re-locate student residences and carry repair work

Aligarh:The Aligarh Muslim University for re-location of accommodation and urgent repair work has recently asked students to vacate their halls of residence with bag and baggage from June 15 to July 15.
Professor Anis Ismail, Dean Students Welfare and Central Vigilance Officer, in a letter sent to all provosts of halls of residence, said that Research scholars are drawing scholarships while there is a big strength of other students on waiting lists of the hostel facilities.

India Today’s College ranking gives JNMC 12th rank

ALIGARH : India Today, a reputed magazine of India, has given the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of the Aligarh Muslim University at 12th rank in its “India’s Best Colleges 2016” Ranking, which it conducted jointly with the Nielsen Company. In the same ranking in 2015, the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College adorned the 14th place.

“Nazr-e-Abul Kalam Qasmi” released

ALIGARH : A book “Nazr-e-Abul Kalam Qasmi” was released yesterday evening at the Ibne Sina Academy, which comprises articles and essays on noted scholar and accomplished Urdu critic, Prof. Abul Kalam Qasmi. Compiled by Dr. Moidur Rahman, these articles and essays have been rendered by distinguished scholars, colleagues, friends and students of Prof. Qasmi, and they seek to highlight the various aspects of Prof. Qasmi’s contributions to Urdu literature and his accomplishments as a model teacher.

Admission tests for Class XI (Science) and Diploma in Engineering held

ALIGARH:The Admission Tests for admission to Class XI (Science) and Diploma in Engineering of the Aligarh Muslim University were conducted in a peaceful manner .More than 38000 candidates have applied for admission to Class XI (Science). For this course, entrance test was conducted from 10 am to 12 noon at five centres at Aligarh, Lucknow, Meerut, Patna and Srinagar out of which 23480 candidates appeared at 45 local centres in Aligarh.

University Games Commitee to start summer courses

Aligarh:The University Games Commitee, Aligarh Muslim University will soon start summer courses for various clubs.Prof Mohammad Shoaib Zaheer, Secretary, University Games Commitee confirmed that the first summer course for athletics will kick start from May 15, 2016 and end on June 5, 2016.The summer course for basketball will start from May 19, 2016 and end on June 4, 2016; while the cricket course will start from May 18, 2016 and end at June 2, 2016. The football course will be from  May 16, 2016 to June 2, 2016. Hockey course will be from May 20, 2016 to June 4, 2016. Tennis course will start from May 16, 2016 and end at May 25, 2016 while the volleyball camp will be from May 15, 2016 to June 4, 2016.

Dept of Neurosurgery reaches milestone with successful brain hemorrhage surgery

Aligarh:The Department of Neurosurgery, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JMC), Aligarh Muslim University reached a new milestone after 75-year-old, Mrs Asghari khatoon of Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh suffering with a brain hemorrhage from a large abnormal blood vessel was successfully treated by a team of surgeons headed by Dr MF Huda, Head, Department of Neurosurgery.

AMU Prof awarded Indian Council of Social Science and Research project

Aligarh: Professor Nizamuddin Khan, Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University has recently been awarded a major research project  by the Indian Council of Social Science and Research, New Delhi.
Under the Project, Prof Khan will research on ‘Integrated Crop-Livestock Farming System and Its Impact on Livelihood and Sustainability of Poor Farmers in Buladshahr District, Uttar Pradesh.’  The Council has sanctioned Rs 10 Lakhs for two years for exploring possibilities and mechanism of adopting mixed farming system with a view to make economically viable agricuture in the area.Prof Khan  has already completed at least six projects on different issues of agriculture and rural transformation.

AMU organizes admission test for undergraduate courses in science and commerce

ALIGARH:The admission test for B.Sc. and B.Com. courses of the Aligarh Muslim University for academic session 2016-17 were organized today in six cities in a peaceful manner. A total number of 25854 candidates applied for the two course. The entrance test commenced at 10 a.m. all centres.At Aligarh centre, 12575 candidates appeared in the admission test for B.Sc. while 4517 candidates wrote their test for admission to B.Com. At Guwahati centre 347, Lucknow 4318, Srinagar 1176, Patna 1574 and at Kolkata 1317 candidates appeared in the test.The admission test for undergraduate course in arts will be held on May 25.Adequate arrangements were made to conduct the admission test smoothly. In Aligarh, National Service Scheme volunteers organized help camps at various locations to provide various kinds of facilities to the candidates coming from other cities.

Noted scholar Prof. Asloob Ansari passes away

ALIGARH:Professor Asloob Ahmad Ansari, a noted scholar, critic, educationist and a retired professor of the Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University, passed away today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. He was laid to rest today afternoon at the University graveyard.

Aligarh:In the  recently conducted International campus Placements  by Training and Placement office ( General), Faisal Jasim, a renowned Middle-East based  engineering company  recruited Btech and BE Electrical, Electronics and Mechanical Engineering Branches students for the  posts of application and commissioning engineers. The selected candidates will work in the United Arab Emirates.

Allegation of discrimination with girls unfounded: DSW

ALIGARH:Prof. Anis Ismail, Dean, Students’ Welfare, Aligarh Muslim University has strongly refuted the allegation of discrimination against female students in the University, levelled by a reputed Emeritus Professor of AMU in some local Hindi dailies. He said that the said teacher’s comments are far from truth.

JNMC observes World Asthma Day

Aligarh: The Pulmonology and ID Clinic of the Department of Pediatrics, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University today organized a free health check up camp for children to observe the World Asthma Day-2016. Professor Farzana K Beig with her team, conducted free health checkups of children and also distributed free of cost drugs to them during the camp.

Change in AMU School timings

Aligarh: Keeping in view the scorching heat wave, the Aligarh Muslim University has changed the timings of the schools with effect from May 4.
Professor Mohammad Gulrez, Director, Directorate of School Education, AMU informed that AMU Schools will now start functioning from 7 am as against 7:30 am. He urged the principals of different schools of AMU to notify the change in corresponding proportion in their respective schools and to maintain the uniform timings for the same.

AMU starts Malappuram Centre Law Faculty construction work

Aligarh:Aligarh Muslim University has started the construction work of the Law Faculty at Malappuram Centre. The construction work is being carried out by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Rs 12.45 crores have been allotted for the purpose.Executive engineer Shri Kant, Assistant Engineer Jaswant Rai Bansal started working on the site according to the master plan prepared by Er Abdurraheem, Department of Architecture, AMU.

workshop on “Fashion Designing, Business and Garment Technology”

Aligarh:Aligarh Muslim University’s Community College and Women’s Polytechnic today started a two-day workshop on “Fashion Designing, Business and Garment Technology” (FDBGT-2016).
While attending the ‘Inaugural Function’ of the workshop as the Chief Guest, Dr J D Bakshi, Advisor, Institute of Social Action, New Delhi and Ex-Director, Apparel Export Promotion Council said that the Textile Industry in India is providing 14 percent of employment and there is a huge scope to explore opportunities in this industry.
