ALIGARH:Prof. Anis Ismail, Dean, Students’ Welfare, Aligarh Muslim University has strongly refuted the allegation of discrimination against female students in the University, levelled by a reputed Emeritus Professor of AMU in some local Hindi dailies. He said that the said teacher’s comments are far from truth.
Prof. Ismail said that the girl students of the University have produced excellent results and they have, in fact, stole the show at the last several annual convocations by receiving largest number of medals under various categories. He said that they have also considerably succeeded in qualifying competitive examinations which facilitated their admission in various courses of the University with an approximate increase of 10 percent every year. He confirmed that in various courses like Communicative English, Linguistics, Persian, Urdu, Education, History, Islamic Studies, Psychology and Women’s Studies, girls share larger intake than their counterparts.
Prof. Anis Ismail said that the Aligarh Muslim University administration is particularly responsive towards the problems and issues faced by girl students. He said that a new 1500-bedded residential Hall is being constructed for girls to provide them easy accommodation with enhanced security. He pointed out that there is no waiting list for accommodation in Abdulla Hall, Indira Gandhi Hall and Bibi Fatima Hall, while on the other hand in S.N. Hall and Begum Sultan Jahan Hall, the waiting list is much lesser than those in boys’ hostels.
Prof. Ismail said that boys and girls in their respective residential halls share similar food menu and in some cases girls are provided with multiple food options as they mostly prefer vegetarian dishes.
