River Ganga Repository inaugurated at AMU

ALIGARH:The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah and Padma Shri Prof. Sachchidananad Sahai today inaugurated the “River Ganga Repository” at the Maulana Azad Library and launched its website which aims at collecting and disseminating knowledge on the River Ganga in printed and digital form.


Addressing on the occasion, Prof. Sahai said that Ganga is not only a river but a lifeline to Indian population which is a witness to India’s age old civilization. He said that by launching this repository of books, research papers and other information on Ganga, AMU has done a great job. He pointed out that since AMU has a centre in Murshidabad of West Bengal, it can extend researches on Ganga to its Murshidabad Centre as well.

Appreciating Dr. Nabi Hasan, AMU Librarian’s efforts to gather all information on Ganga in such a short period of time, Prof. Sahai urged that all the scant information on Ganga should be published in the form of books and collections so that scholars, researchers and environmentalists could benefit from this information treasure.

Prof. Sahai said that AMU is doing a wonderful job in the direction of national Clean Ganga project and he was impressed to see Dr. Nadeem Khalil’s presentation on the issue. He said that AMU, which is engaged in promoting high quality knowledge in the country for over a century, is doing great things under the able leadership of the Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, who gives an impetus to faculty members to work with novelty.

In his remarks, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah said that Ganga is a lifeline to India and pride of the nation. He said that AMU is also doing its bit in helping the ambitious Clean Ganga project. He said that we should also initiate projects for cleaning other rivers of the country.

Lt. Gen. Shah pointed out that AMU is committed to promote mutual understanding and pluralistic ethos amongst various communities of India and for this purpose, a Centre for Interfaith Understanding has been established in the University. He said that AMU has meaningfully contributed in promoting modern education amongst Muslims and remains fully dedicated to the national development of the country.
