English Access Micro-scholarship program conclude

Aligarh:The UGC Human Resource Development Centre, AMU recently hosted the prize distribution ceremony of the English Access Micro-scholarship programme (EAMP) 2014-16, funded by the American Centre, New Delhi.

Dr Craig Dicker, Minister Counsellor for Public Affairs, US Embassy, Shantipath, New Delhi while distributing certificates to the participants at the Function, said that the knowledge and performance in a programme like this depends on their level of eagerness to learn. He expressed satisfaction over English communication skills and eloquence of the student speakers.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd), with Dr Dicker, visited and appreciated the exhibition of writings and drawings of the children, chronicling their experience in the EAMP.
Meanwhile, Mrs Sabiha Simi Shah, wife AMU VC also gave out the prizes for various competitions and conveyed her best wishes for a bright future of the AMU school children.Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Director, UGC HRDC thanked the American Centre, New Delhi for the support it offered for the EAMP. He said that the programme is in its 6th consecutive year and over 500 underprivileged students from AMU schools have been benefitted so far.
Prof Kidwai added that the free of cost English proficiency and personality development classes are held for the children in the off-school hours at the UGC HRDC, AMU.
Prof Anis Ismail, Dean, Students’ Welfare, AMU felicitated the seven Access Alumni who had participated in the Leadership Camp of American Centre in Delhi this year.
Prof M Gulrez, Director, Directorate of School Education, AMU said that such programmes are an added advantage for the AMU schools, which is reflected in their overall performance. He felicitated the Access teachers Dr Amirullah Khan; Dr Zainab Sarwat and Dr Sajidul Islam, Department of English; Dr Faiz Zaidi and Dr Shahzad Siddiqui, PGT, Saiyyid Hamid Senior Secondary School for Boys; Dr Malik Arshad, STS High School; Dr Viqar Akbar, City High School and Dr Sherin Sherwani, Access Trainer.
Dr Mandeep Kaur, Programme Officer, American Centre, New Delhi and Prof Umar Farooq, Assistant Director, Directorate of School Education also graced the occasion.
Dr Faiza Abbasi, Asst Professor, UGC HRDC presented a report on the weekly activities combining computer classes and leisure reading in Library. She said that children were also taken to seven educational tours including cultural and natural heritage sites and modern establishments.
She added that  at least 18 workshops were held on various issues of social and personal development and a range of co-curricular activities were organised during the one week ‘Mid-term Enhancement Activities’.“Students have participated with great enthusiasm in these programmes and won many prizes,” said Dr Abbasi.
Ms Ifrah Andaleeb, AMU Girls’ High School and Mr Mohd Asif, STS High Schoo gave the feedback on their two year engagement with the EAMP. They said that they noticed a marked change in their confidence, communication skills and confidence.Dr Amirullah Khan conducted the programme and Dr Faiz Zaidi proposed the vote of thanks.
