Professor Shabahat felicitated

Aligarh:The Department of Library and Information Science, Aligarh Muslim University organized a felicitation ceremony for Professor Shabahat Hussain, Chairman of the Department to honour his unopposed election as the President of Indian Library Association (ILA), a national body to look after
the interests of the Libraries and Librarians in India.
Prof Hussain is the first library professional from Aligarh Muslim University so far to have been elected as the President of Indian Library Association. The term of his office extends to three years.

While presiding over the function, Professor AR Kidwai, Director, UGC HRD Center, AMU said that Prof Husain worked with his full capacity in whatever responsibility he was assigned at AMU. He said that Prof Husain’s contribution in establishing the First Social Science Cyber Library in the world, now being accessed in 116 countries, is a landmark.

Brig S Ahmad Ali (Retd), AMU PVC, in his message from Allahabad congratulated Prof Husain over the achievement, saying that ‘he deserved this honour’ and wished
him to ‘bring many more laurels to the University in future as well’.

Dr Nabi Hasan, the University Librarian, Maulana Azad Library narrated his association with the Department of Library Science and also with Prof Shabahat Husain. Dr Hasan, in his address, said that the contribution of Prof Husain is not only limited to Aligarh or India, but also he has himself witnessed his role in the development of ‘Collaboration Network’ (COLLNET) in Germany, the example of which is The ‘COLLNET Journal’, founded by Prof Husain in AMU,   which is now an International Journal, being published from U.K.

Prof Husain, in his address, said that he will continue to work for the Department as well as University. He further said that he will work for ‘Indian Library Association’ with the same zeal to scale newer heights.

Prof Naushad Ali, Department of Library and Information Science welcomed the guests and explained the role of ILA in Indian Librarianship. He also pointed out the contribution of Prof. Husain not only for the Department and MA Library, but also at national and International levels.

On behalf of the students of the Department, Ms Azra Aftab, research scholar congratulated Prof. Husain on this achievement.Dr Sudharma Haridasan proposed the vote of thanks while the Programme was conducted by Ms Areeba Tauseef.The programme was attended by Prof. Shadab Khursheed, Ms Rana Askari, Dr Shysta Bedaar, Mr Ahrarul Hasan, Dr Surraya, Mr Aslam Mehdi, Ms Talat Husain, Ms Tarab Husain, Mr Moin Husain and Mr Arshan Husain.
