AMU stand clarified before the Allahabad High Court

ALIGARH:In the case challenging the appointment of Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah and Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali as Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University,
the counsel for respondents, Mr. Shashi Nandan argued before the Hon’ble High Court, Allahabad and highlighted two issues, UGC Act and regulations vis a vis AMU Act and Statutes and highlighted that Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor come under the category of “Officers of the University”.
He pointed out that the Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor, being non-teaching in nature, have been duly appointed under the prescribed norms of the University statutes. After hearing the counsel , the court rose for the day and fixed December 19 for next hearing in the case.
In the second case pertaining to Group Captain Shahrukh Shamshad’s resignation, a divisional bench comprising Chief Justice D. Y. Chandrachud and Justice PKS Baghel heard the case on issues including the Vice Chancellor’s authority to accept resignation under Section 19(3) of the University Act.
The Court has directed the counsel to submit a personal affidavit by the Vice Chancellor and the Pro-Vice Chancellor on or before 7th January 2015 on issues raised by complainant’s counsel challenging the legality of the meeting of the Executive Council and also issuance of the office memos. The case has been listed for final verdict on January 13, 2015.
