NAAC team bids farewell to AMU after hectic assessment exercise

ALIGARH:The Chairman of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council Peer Team, Prof. G. N. Qazi, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, appreciated the dynamic nature of the Aligarh Muslim University.
Highlighting the extraordinary performance of the AMU students, he said that AMU has a strong alumni network all over the world and these alumni are shining face of this institution.

Prof. Qazi said that Jamia Hamdard was created on AMU model and our Chancellor Hakeem Abdul Hameed also served as the Chancellor of this historic seat of learning simultaneously. He said that AMU has a number of hidden talents that need to be brought forward. He recalled that in 1967 he sought admission in graduation with Biochemistry but later changed his mind.

Prof. Qazi affirmed that the Maulana Azad Library of AMU has been found to be the best University amongst all Indian university libraries and the rare manuscripts preserved here add to our great national heritage. He confirmed that AMU has the greenest campus which provides a serene favourable environment for academic and research activities. He suggested that AMU should start a research consultancy to give boost to a world standard research practice.

Prof. Qazi, however, pointed out that we cannot live in past and we must prepare ourselves to take up challenges of modern times. He said that the NAAC team has made an assessment of the University and a final report will be submitted later to the Board of NAAC for accreditation.

Prof. Qazi said that the teachers’ quality needs to be reviewed internally for best use of their teaching skills. He made a passionate appeal to the faculty members to take orientation courses in their respective fields periodically.

He appreciated the efforts of the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (Retired) for starting a novel Bridge Course programme for Madrasa graduates. He suggested that this great opportunity be provided through other Universities in India.

Addressing on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Shah assured that the University will work on the suggestions made by the visiting NAAC Peer Team. He appreciated the team spirit of teaching and non-teaching staff of the University who worked with great commitment to provide all kinds of logistic support to the visiting team.

Gen. Shah said that the Bridge Course started by AMU is being appreciated all over. He said that he has a meeting with the Union Minister for Minority Affairs in a day and will discuss the course with her. He pointed out that some departments including the Wildlife, Nanotechnology and Quranic Studies Centre are benchmark to this University.

Proposing a vote of thanks, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S. Ahmad Ali said that the University was preparing for the NAAc team’s visit for the last two years and we hope our efforts prove successful.

The Convener of the NAAC related committee, Professor Rizwan Khan conducted the programme. The Vice Chancellor presented mementoes to the members of the NAAC team.
