AMU Court elects six representatives to University’s EC

ALIGARH:Six members of the Aligarh Muslim University Court, Supreme governing body of the University, were elected unopposed to the Executive Council of the University.

The adjourned special meeting of the University Court was held today at NRSC Club. Nawab Ibne Saeed Khan of Chhatari, Pro-Chancellor, presided over the meeting, while Prof. Tajuddin, Chief Election Officer declared the results.

Noted educationist, Prof. A. M. Pathan, former Vice Chancellor and former President of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Mr. Ameer Ahamed, Managing Director, Manappat Foundation, Kochi (Kerala), Mr. Asif Farooqi, Mumbai (Maharashtra), Philanthropist Mr. Nadeem Tarin, Mr. P.A. Inamdar, President, Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society, Pune (Maharashtra) and Dr. Syed Zafar Mahmood, President, Zakat Foundation of India, New Delhi are the newly elected members of the Executive Council from within the members of the University Court.
The Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah welcomed the members of the University Court. In his address, Lt. Gen. Shah informed about the developments regarding the University’s minority status case. He also told that the election schedule for the AMU Students’ Union had been declared and the new student’s body will soon be in place.

The above meeting was attended by 92 members including Members of Parliament Dr. Abhijit Mukherjee, Mr. E.T. Mohd. Basheer and Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasmi Former MP Mr. K.C. Tyagi, former member of Planning Commission, Ms. Sayeda Saiyidain Hameed, former Vice Chancellor of AMU, Dr. Mehmoodur Rahman, Registrar, Newspapers of India, Mr. S. M. Khan, Physician to the President of India Dr. Mohsin Wali, Mr. Zafar Ahmad Farooqui, Chairman, UP Sunni Central Board of Waqf, Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani, Rector, Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Kalbe Sadiq, Vice President, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Ghulam Vastanvi, President JIIU, Maharashtra, Mr. Siraj Qureshi, President, India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi, Mr. S. M. Kutbur Rahman etc.

Meanwhile, a distinguished member of the AMU Court, Mr. P.A. Ibrahim Haji, Chairman, P.A. College of Engineering, Mangalore today announced a donation of Rs. 30 Lakh for the renovation work of the University Jama Masjid.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has recently issued an appeal to all members of the AMU fraternity including teachers, non-teaching staff and alumni to contribute generously to the conservation and restoration of more than a century old grand Jama Masjid of the University.
