ALIGARH :The Executive Council of the Aligarh Muslim University, in an emergent special meeting of its local members, today, unanimously resolved to hold the elections to the AMU Students’ Union, Women’s College Students’
Union and for the students’ representation on AMU Court, “at the earliest”. The new process for the election should begin as soon as possible, the Executive Council held. The meeting was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah.

According to a notification issued by the AMU Registrar, Prof. Asfar Ali Khan, the Executive Council has constituted a committee with Prof. M. Amanullah Khan, as its head, to discuss issues with the students. The other members of the Committee are Prof. (Hafiz) Mohd. Ilyas Khan, Prof. H.S.A. Yahya, Prof. Mirza Mohd. Sufyan Beg, Mr. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Dr. Obaid Ahmad Siddiqui, Proctor, Dean Students’ Welfare, Honorary Treasurer, AMUSU and the Registrar as Convener.

The Executive Council has made it clear that elections will be held only when there is a conducive atmosphere and the undesirable elements are shunned by the students themselves.

Meanwhile, the University has made it clear that the channel of communication will be kept open despite the fact that the efforts of a team of senior teachers failed to get the necessary response from contestants though it waited for them for one hour at 2 pm today. It may be noted that the Vice Chancellor personally spoke to several contestants at 9 pm on 21 September and at 5.40 am on 22 September, 2016.
