 ALIGARH.There has been a widespread coverage of alleged rape/sexual harassment/molestation of a girl by Prof. M. Shabbir, Chairman, Department of Law at the Aligarh Muslim University. AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah today met the concerned girl along with her father and it was clearly brought out by them that it was a case of molestation only and not the other kind of sexual misdemeanor as reported by a section of media.
AMU suspended a Law Department professor following a complaint of sexual harassment against him by a girl student of LLM first year. Professor is on the run as the latest development comes on surface. Possibilities are of his surrender at CJM court, as his advocate indicates.Monday,CJM court take 11 Dec.date for hearing. AMU may terminate him on this ground.The professor teaches Women and Law as well as Criminal Law and Gender Justice. AMU registrar Group Captain Shahrukh Shamshad confirmed that Professor Mohammad Shabbir has been suspended on charges of misconduct following complaint by a student pursuing LLM first year. The victim, who belongs to Kashmir, had given the complaint to Dean of Law Faculty Professor Iqbal Ali Khan against Professor Shabbir.the university had suspended Professor Shabbir on similar charges of sexual harassment eight years ago on a complaint of US-based university girl student who had come on a visit. Shabbir was suspended on the charges then as well. After four months, the inquiry had given him a clean chit and his suspension was revoked. Mean while, Aligarh police has denied for arrest in this case.
