Rare surgery takes place in JNMC

ALIGARH.A rare surgery was performed successfully in the Department of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University.A patient,Rajveer from Bareilly was referred to Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, JN Medical College for expert opinion regarding the patient illness who had problem of opening eyes, chewing foods, voice and respiration.The patient was diagnosed Myasthenia Gravis and did not show any relief after taking the prescribed medicine.Finally, CT-Thorax was performed on him, which revealed a tumour in Thymus Gland located in the upper part of chest cavity. He was operated using mid-sternotomy incision and the entire tumour was removed from anterior mediastinum. The operation was performed by Cardiothoracic Surgery team
comprising Prof MH Beg, Dr M Azam Haseen and Dr Arjun Agrawal while Prof
Shahla Haleem and her team from Anaesthesiology provided anaesthesia to the
patient. The patient has showed tremendous improvement as he started opening eyes, chewing food and his voice and respiration also recovered.The surgery borne minimum expenditure to the family of the patient and the patient was discharged after 7 days of operation and is being followed up in the OPD of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery and Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Diabetes & Endocrinology, JNMC.
