AMU Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor lay new CALEM building foundation stone

Aligarh:Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd) and Pro Vice Chancellor, Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (retd) recently laid the foundation stone of the new building of the Centre of Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEM) at the UGC Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), AMU.


Speaking on the occasion, AMU Vice Chancellor said that UGC HRDC is rendering a commendable service by training the ambassadors of AMU. He added that the aims and objectives of the CALEM project are taking AMU further in its mission.

He further added that he expects similar leadership behaviour and academic excellence from everyone in AMU. He pointed out that the way new feature of Induction Courses for freshly appointed Assistant Professors of AMU has been introduced at the UGC HRDC is an example of excellence.

Meanwhile, the Pro Vice Chancellor congratulated the UGC HRDC team for having the CALEM project sanctioned by the MHRD and for effectively delivering the benefits to the community.

He pointed out that the vision of Sir Syed included building community linkages across the length and breadth of the nation and it is being fulfilled under CALEM for the first time. He endorsed the commitment and spirit of the CALEM team in taking the courses to MMDCs in locations spread far and wide.

Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai, Director, UGC HRDC, AMU informed that the new CALEM building is supported by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under its PMMMNMTT (Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teacher Training) Scheme. He added that the Centre at AMU is envisioned to act as Nodal Centre for the professional development of Minorities Managed Degree Colleges and Universities in India and has been doing so for the past year.

Dr Faiza Abbasi, Assistant Professor, UGC HRDC said that the new CALEM building will have two smart class rooms, a computer lab, library and documentation centre, state-of-art auditorium, women’s hostel and office space.

While thanking the AMU Vice Chancellor; Pro Vice Chancellor; HRD Ministry; Prof Anwar Khurshid, University Engineer; AMU Faculty members and management and staff of the Minorities Managed Degree Colleges of India (MMDC) associated with AMU under CALEM, Dr Abbasi pointed out that more than a thousand MMDCs have benefitted from 35 courses since the inception of the programme.  

AMU Officiating Registrar Prof Asfar Ali Khan, Finance Officer Prof S M Jawed Akhtar, Controller Prof Yusufuzzama Khan, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof Jamshed Siddiqui and veteran AMU teachers including Emeritus Prof Farhatullah Khan, Prof C P S Chauhan, Prof Wazahat Hussain and Prof Jawad Ali Khan were also present.
