workshop on ‘Conservation of Manuscripts and Archival Material’

Aligarh:The Maulana Azad Library, Aligarh Muslim University today began a week-long training course cum workshop on ‘Conservation of Manuscripts and Archival Material’.The training course cum workshop is being organized by the Heritage Cell in collaboration with the Maulana Azad Library.

Professor Sufiyan Beg, Principal, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, AMU, who attended the inaugural function as the Chief Guest highlighted the heritage work presently carried out at the Jama Masjid of the AMU and also elaborated on the importance of this unique workshop.Dr Nabi Hasan, University Librarian spoke on, ‘Manuscripts and Rare Books at Maulana Azad Library: A case study.’
Apprising the patricians, Ar Mohammad FarhanFazli, convener of the workshop said that since the course is unique and first of its kind in AMU, it is hoped that the course will be very useful for the participants as this university has a number of documents, items and other material of manuscript and archival value.Other conveners of the course, Prof Sabih Akhtar, Ar Mohd Khalid Hasan also spoke on the occasion.
Lalit Kumar Pathak from Prince of Wales Museum, Mumbai (CSMVS), Senior Paper Conservation Consultant and the Main Expert for this workshop will conduct different practical sessions on conservation and preservation of manuscripts and archival material.A total of about 35 participants from different parts of the county are attending this course.Pathak, the resource person is very excited seeing the interest of the participants and expressed hope that he will be able to generate interest and train so that they can take back the knowledge to conserve and preserve the documents of heritage importance at their respective places.
