JNMC to organise Symposium cum Workshop

Aligarh: The Department of Anaesthesiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and ‘Critical Care’ is organizing a symposium cum workshop on the role of ‘Ultrasonography in Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Management on August 6, 2016.

Dr Surabhi Choudhary, consultant musculoskeletal radiologist, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK will be the lead resource person and the international faculty for the conduct of said programme. Eminent faculties from AIIMS, New Delhi and other tertiary care hospitals are also participating in this academic meet.
In the symposium cum workshop, the delegates will learn about the basics of sonoanatomy and about the techniques and procedures performed under ultrasound guidance so as to deliver targeted administration of drugs during the management of patients suffering from acute pain, chronic pain, neuropathic pain and cancer pain.
Dr Hammad Usmani, Department of Anaesthesiology who is one of the organisers of the workshop, said that with the growing accessibility of ultrasound machine, the performance of peripheral nerve blocks and intra-articular injections is witnessing resurgence in the field of regional anaesthesia and pain management.
He added that the use of ultrasound offers the advantage of performing nerve blocks and joint injections under direct visualization of the involved anatomical structures thus improving block quality and decreasing complication rate.
“However, to enable us to optimize and interpret the ultrasound images, we have to understand the basics of sonoanatomy and orientation of needle during scanning of various structures,” further said Dr Usmani.
