AMU denounces AMUTA’s allegation

ALIGARH:The Aligarh Muslim University has refuted the allegation of the AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) that the University administration’s decision to seek AMUTA members’ consent for deduction towards the Teachers’ Sports Club membership fee every month, is “aimed at curbing the democratically elected body” of AMU teachers. The University has clarified that the Honorary Secretary, AMUTA had himself mentioned earlier that the money collected by the AMUTA members was “private money” and the University had no jurisdiction on that money.


It has been made clear that “in view of foregoing the money” thus collected, and as per the statement of the AMUTA Secretary, the University had decided that “from December 2015 onwards, no money on behalf of AMUTA will be deducted from the salary of the members of the Association”.

The University, in order to promote games and sports in the Teacher’s Club premises, through a notification issued on December 26, 2015, has, however, asked all the Secretaries, Teachers’ clubs to “send the details of their members in a prescribed format, with desired amount to be deducted from their salary, on monthly basis” by December 29, to be deducted by the Salary Section of the University’s Finance and Accounts Department.

It may be noted that an amount of Rs. 1,16,12,999 was collected towards the relief fund for flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir, out of which Rs. 7,04,644 were returned to 166 teachers on their demand. The remaining amount of Rs. 1,09,08,355 has been sent to the flood victims in two installments through direct electronic transfer to the victims’ accounts.
