ALIGARH:Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University today organized the First P.A. Inamdar Moot Court Competition on Educational Rights of Minorities. The two-day legal battle will be fought amongst twenty teams coming from all over the country.
It is for the first time that three sitting judges of the Allahabad High Court today graced the inaugural function. Justice Sudhir Kumar Saxena was the chief guest while Justice Rakesh Srivastava and Justice Rajan Roy graced the programme as guests of honour. AMU Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah presided over the inaugural ceremony. Pro-Vice Chancellor Brig. S. Ahmad Ali also addressed the Moot Court participants.
In his welcome address, Prof. Iqbal Ali Khan, Chairman, Department of Law said that it was a momentous day in the history of Faculty of Law when three sitting judges had graced any programme in AMU together. He said that organizing the Moot Court in every law institute is mandatory according to a communication issued by the Bar Council of India. Now it has become a part of the curriculum of BALLB programme since 1997, he added.
Emphasizing the importance of education, Justice Sudhir Kumar Saxena said that educating a man means educating an individual while educating a woman means educating a generation.
Justice Rakesh Srivastava underlined the importance of law as a profession and said that before being a good lawyer one needs to be a good teacher, psychologist and a good human being.
Referring to the rights of minorities, Justice Rajan Roy pointed out that the main objective behind providing these rights was to promote education of minorities through specific institutions. He also discussed the vision of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, founder of the Aligarh Muslim University.
In his presidential remarks, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah said that minorities are an integral part of the country and they should be given equal opportunities for education. He affirmed that the Constitution of India gave minorities equal rights to education and development.
Brig. S. Ahmad Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor appreciated the initiative taken by the Faculty of Law by organizing the Moot Court Competition and said that a good lawyer has an ability to manage time, think logically and articulate situation with reason and wisdom.
On this occasion, a book published by the Law Society, “Contemporary Legal Issues: Prospects and Challenges” was also released.
Prof. Shakeel Samdani, Incharge Media Committee, Dr. Mohd. Tariq, Incharge Law Society, Ujwal Sinha, Moot Court Secretary, Editor Tabish Iqbal, Joint Editor Ali Faran Gulrez, Joint Secretary Mehboob Alam, members of Law Society and other students including Shagufta Hayat, Alvira Siddiqui, Urooj Afreen and Shreya Singh were present on the occasion.
