University Debating and Literary Club conducts first day of AMU Literary Festival 2.0

Aligarh:The University Debating and Literary Club, Cultural Education Centre, Aligarh Muslim University has concluded the first day of the three-day ‘AMU Literary Festival 2.0’, which was inaugurated by Mr Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, journalist, political commentator, author and documentary film maker.

While delivering the inaugural lecture, Mr Thakurta spoke on ‘Natural Resources and Crony Capitalism’. He said that the whole system has been subverted in a way that the benefit of natural resources has not gone to everybody.Mr Thakurta emphasized the fact that there should be transparency in administration and civil society to prevent corruption.
He urged the youth to stand up and protect the rights of citizens against those who deprive people of what Mother Nature has given them.Praising today’s youth, Mr Thakurta said that he is an eternal optimist because of faith in today’s generation.The AMU Vice-chancellor, Lt General Zameer Uddin Shah (retd), CEC Coordinator, Dr F S Shirani and Dr Siraj Ajmali presided over the fucntion.   AMU alumnus and filmmaker, Mr Irfan Azhar attended the function as the guest of Honour.
Results of All India Sir Syed Memorial Debate were also declared in the function, in which Law College, Dehradun bagged the winning trophy. The best teams in the debate were Law College, Dehradoon in English; Jamia Milia Islamia in Urdu; and Law College, Dehradun in Hindi. Meanwhile, a cultural evening was also a highlight of the function. Mr Wajahat Jilani hosted the programme.
