AMU appeals to save electricity

Aligarh:The Department of Electricity, Aligarh Muslim University, in a ‘Green Campus Initiative’ and awareness campaign, has appealed AMU fraternity to save electricity as substantial amount of university grant is utilized in electricity consumption.

Dr Mohd Rihan, Member-in-Charge, Department of Electricity said that in 2010-2011, the yearly electricity consumption was 2.35  Kwh (crores) worth Rs  12.64 crore bill while in 2015-16, the consumption shot up to 2.92 Kwh (crores) with an yearly bill of Rs 26.13 crores.
Dr Rihan said that the rise in electricity consumption is due to the expansion of buildings, revision of tariff and more due to electricity overuse.
He has appealed the AMU fraternity to switch off lights and fans of university offices, rooms, classrooms, laboratories after working hours. He further appealed to switch off air conditioners while leaving offices and departments and avoid use of electric heaters for preparation of tea and coffee.Dr Rihan in the poster campaign has also requested AMU fraternity to use LED lamps instead of incandescent lamps.
