Prof. Abrar Mustafa Khan Conference Hall inaugurated

ALIGARH : The Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah yesterday inaugurated Prof. Abrar Mustafa Khan Conference Hall at the Department of Botany. Prof. Abrar Mustafa Khan served the University for more than 36 years and was appointed as Emeritus Professor in the year 1982. He passed away in the year 2004.

On this occasion, Prof. Abrar Mustafa Khan’s illustrious son Prof. Absar Mustafa Khan, Prof. H.S.A. Yahya, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. M. Yunus Khalid Ansari and other faculty members were also present.Prof. Abrar Mustafa Khan was considered as Father of Indian Nematology and in recognition of his contributions he was honoured with fellowship of several prestigious science societies including the FNA of Indian National Science Academy.Prof. Khan was elected first President of Nematological Society of India in 1969. He was also elected as President of the Society for Advancement of Botany in 1977. He was elected as the President of the 71st Indian Science Congress session of Agricultural Sciences held at Ranchi in 1984.
In view of his contributions in the field of Plant Nematology and Plant Pathology, Prof. Khan was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Kanpur University and Kashmir Agriculture University but on both occasions he declined to accept the new responsibilities out of his dedication to his profession and love for his Alma Mater.Prof. Khan published about 300 research papers in national and international journals and guided 36 PhDs during his teaching career.
