AMU hostels to remain closed till 29 July

Aligarh:The Aligarh Muslim University Halls of residences will remain closed till July 29 for re-location of accommodation and urgent repair work of hostels.  The opening date has been extended as a large number of rooms were found locked in hostels after the students vacated for vacations.
Earlier to this, AMU, in a notice, ordered students to vacate halls of residences with bag and baggage for carrying out maintenance and repair work and re-location of students.

Professor Anis Ismail, Dean, Students Welfare and Central Vigilance Officer, AMU in a letter sent to all provosts of halls of residence, said that Research scholars are drawing scholarships while there is a big strength of other students on waiting lists of the hostel facilities. He said that the students have to resort to rented accommodations outside the university premises and are needed to be taken care of.

Prof Ismail said that it is for this reason that research scholars are permitted to stay in University’s halls of residence for a period of only three years. He added that with the re-location of students, it is hoped that this problem will be solved.

However, the female research scholars, for whom a summer hostel has been arranged in Indira Gandhi (IG) Hall, will be allowed to stay in the Hall till July 29. This will not apply to students of Faculty of Medicine and Unani Medicine, who are engaged in hospital duties or classes.
