AMU VC denounces AMUTA’s allegations

Aligarh:The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah has denounced the allegations leveled by the AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) as “false and outrageously ridiculous”.

He said, “It is true that Mr. Wasim Ahmed had approached me to render my nomination for Vice-Chancellor in 2006 when Prof P.K. Abdul Azis was selected. The matter was forgotten and in 2012 when some persons approached me to render my nomination, again, I declined since I was already 63½ years old and had no intention of serving for 1½ years since the retirement age at that time was 65 years. It is only when the retirement age was raised to 70 years that I accepted to file my nomination. This clearly proves the blatant falsehood being spread by AMUTA office bearers that I tried for 5 years for the appointment”.

Lt. Gen. Shah said that the project worth 20 Cr were awarded by open tender to the lowest bidder. The documents for the same can be examined and they will reveal the false allegations leveled by AMUTA.

He said, “AMUTA may please name his relatives who have benefitted. Not a single employee or contractor of AMU is his relative. A few who claimed to be relatives are rather disappointed that their claim has been spurned by the Vice-Chancellor”.

He made it clear that “the Vice-Chancellor had to dispense with important office bearers who were inefficient and untrustworthy. Some went to the Court. He has now full faith on his present team”.

Lt. Gen. Shah said, “The proposed guest house was not solely for the bicentenary celebrations. AMU has a capacity to accommodate only 50 guests. We cannot have any international conference, a pre requisite for a university vying for world class status. In any case it was proposed by an alumnus who had contributed very generously to AMU. The offer has now been withdrawn by him. AMUTA can try and raise money for a first rate guest house if they are capable”.

The Vice Chancellor clarified, “Sir Syed Education Foundation is not a family trust. It is part of CEPECAMI whose purpose is to promote ‘Education and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India’. The organization of the proposed trust will be put before the Executive Council for approval”.

Lt. Gen. Shah, however, regretted that “AMUTA is backing a few students who held members of Executive Council and Academic Council hostage in the Administrative Block by unprovoked firing”. “The Vice-Chancellor cannot be pressured by anybody – least of all AMUTA”, he declared.

Declaring that “all attempts have been made for a CBI enquiry by the administration in the murder of Alamgir, including a meeting with Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Union Home Minister”, the Vice Chancellor asserted, “May be AMUTA can attempt for the CBI enquiry to fructify”.

He also clarified that “Mr. Mustafa Zaidi’s chamber was sealed because he was using it to encourage disruptive activities on the campus”.

Terming AMUTA’s resolution of 13 November 2015 and Press Release of 16 November 2015 full of blatant falsehoods and deplorable, Lt. Gen. Shah said that AMUTA has not answered his question, “Have they ever done anything constructive for AMU?”
