JNMC organizes free pacemaker camp

Aligarh:The Centre of Cardiology, J N Medical College, AMU recently organized a free pacemaker camp, which was attended by a large number of patients on single and dual chamber pacemaker, CRT and ICD.During the camp, Professor M U Rabbani, Director, Centre of Cardiology informed that Pacemaker is a device surgically implanted in patients with low heart rates, while ICD is a technologically more advance version of pacemakers to restore heart rhythm by giving electric shock internally in life threatening heart rhythm disturbances.

He further said that CRT is implanted in patients with heart failure.“All pacemakers and ICD’s have battery life of about 10-12 years,” informed Prof Rabbani, who further lamented that regular pacemaker check and programming not only enhances pacemaker’s life but also may detect a need for pacemaker replacement at least one year in advance.Prof Tariq Mansoor, Principal and CMS of J N Medical College and Hospital inaugurated the camp. Prof Asif Hasan, Dr Rafi Anwar and resident doctors Dr Sandeep Kumar, Dr Adil, Dr Shadab Ahmad and Dr Swati Singh conducted the camp.
