AMU to celebrate Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary with enthusiasm

:To mark the 125th Birth anniversary of the Father of Indian Constitution Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the Centre for Interfaith Understanding, Sir Syed Academy and Dr. Ambedkar Chair, Aligarh Muslim University are jointly organizing a commemorative programme on April 14, 2016 at the Sir Syed House.


AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah will preside over the function, while Brig. S. Ahmad Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor, will be the guest of honour. Prof. Iqbal Ali Khan, Incharge, Ambedkar Chair will present introductory remarks on the occasion.

The commemorative function will be preceded by a march from Bab-e-Syed to Sir Syed House at 8:30 am.In another celebratory programme, a two-day National Workshop on “Urdu Translation of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s Writings” is being organized at the Aligarh Muslim University on April 14-15, 2016, marking the birth anniversary of the great luminary who has left behind him a voluminous work of high intellectual value.

AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah will preside over the inaugural session on April 14, while Pro-Vice Chancellor Brig. S. Ahmad Ali will grace the occasion as the guest of honour.Professor Emeritus Farhatullah Khan, Department of English, AMU and Professor Rajkumar, Department of English, University of Delhi will deliver keynote addresses.

Prof. Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, Managing Editor, Urdu Translation Project for Dr. Ambedkar’s collected works undertaken by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, said that the workshop-p will not only “galvanize all translators, editor and vetters associated with the translation work but will also provide an interactive platform to discuss the specific problems encountered by them during translation”. “Achieving uniformity and consistency of style in Urdu translation is very important”, added Prof. Siddiqui.
