UP Minority Commission delegation visits AMU

ALIGARH :A four member delegation of Uttar Pradesh Minority Commission led by the Chairman of the Commission Mr. Shakil Ahmad today visited the Aligarh Muslim University and met the Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah. The other members of delegation comprised Mr. Suhail Ayyub Jinjani, Mr. Nafeesul Hasan and Mr. Shafi Azmi. Mr. Suhail Ayyub Jinjani and Mr. Nafeesul Hasan are AMU alumni.


District Programme Officer Mr. M. Z. Khan and District Minority Welfare Officer Mr. Prashant Kumar Singh were also present during the meeting.

The Vice Chancellor discussed several issues with the visiting delegation, which included the restoration of minority character of the University, restoration of Waqf properties of the University which have been illegally grabbed and conversion of electricity charges of the University from commercial to domestic. He also urged the delegation to help the Ganga Canal Colony land be transferred to the University as it was strategically very important for it.

AMU Registrar, Dr. Asfar Ali Khan, Dean Students’ Welfare Prof. Anis Ismail, Prof. Aftab Alam of Department of Political Science and Consultant Public Relations Dr. Rahat Abrar were present in the meeting.

The delegation visited the University Jama Masjid and paid tribute at the Mazar of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, founder of the University. They also visited the Maulana Azad Library and saw the rare manuscripts preserved in the Library.
