AMU Vice Chancellor to garland Dr. Ambedkar’s statue

ALIGARH: Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, along with other staff and students, will garland the statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at Ambedkar Park near Kathpula .
Following the garlanding ceremony, a commemorative function will be organized under the auspices of Centre for Interfaith Understanding and Dr. Ambedkar Chair, at Sir Syed Academy, at 8.30 am to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

AMU Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Shah will also preside over the inaugural session of a two-day National Workshop on Urdu Translation of Dr. Ambedkar’s Collected Works on April 14, 2016 at 10 am at the Arts’ Faculty lounge. AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor Brig. S. Ahmad Ali will be the guest of honour.

Professor Emeritus Farhatullah Khan, Department of English, AMU and Professor Rajkumar, Department of English, University of Delhi will deliver keynote addresses.

Prof. Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, Managing Editor, Urdu Translation Project for Dr. Ambedkar’s collected works undertaken by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, said that the workshop will not only “galvanize all translators, editor and vetters associated with the translation work but will also provide an interactive platform to discuss the specific problems encountered by them during translation”. “Achieving uniformity and consistency of style in Urdu translation is very important”, added Prof. Siddiqui.
