While addressing the inaugural function, Chief Guest Professor Nancy Malla of Chandigarh there has always been a need for the proper look after of the parasitology branch of Medical profession. She pointed out that it is ecstatic to know that now plenty of research work is being undertaken in the field with the regular organization of seminars, conferences and workshops. In spite of the fact that Parasitic diseases have always proved deadly, no vaccine has been introduced for their prevention, she added.
Professor M Amanullah Khan, Dean, Faculty of Medicine said that the Department of Microbiology is a vibrant one and has been emerging as a role model for the other Departments. He said that the regular organizing of such initiatives by the Department act as a means to upgrade the related knowledge of the field.
Professor Abrar Hasan, Principal, JN Medical College said that the incidence of parasitic diseases cause considerable death, suffering and economic loss in both developing and developed nations. He further said that the scale of the problem facing the global community cannot be understated. Future prevention and control of parasitic infections will depend on high quality, interdisciplinary collaborative research in the concerned field, he added.
Dr Adil Raza, Organizing Secretary of the conference mentioned that parasitic diseases have become major health problems while the issues of the emergence of drug resistance in malarial parasite, malarial vaccines and repellant tolerance in mosquito are of major concern. He said that the major strength amidst disarray is that large proportion of these diseases is preventable by taking account of hygiene.
Professor Haris M Khan, Chairperson, Department of Microbiology said that parasitology is that branch of medical profession which has not been highlighted much. It is matter of pride that the Department has taken a step ahead in this direction, he stated. Prof Khan also proposed the vote of thanks.
Dr Asfia Sultan, Joint organizing secretary of the Conference said that parasitic diseases are now emerging as major public health problem, throughout the world including India. She said that UP & UK was established in 2015 to promote exchange of ideas and reasech interest in parasitic disease of public health importance and to bring together microbiologists, parasitologists, infectious disease specialists and clinicians for better patient care. She also conducted the program.
