Sir Syed Hall (North) holds annual Hall function

ALIGARH :Addressing the Annual Hall Function “Oquab-e-Sir Syed” of the Sir Syed Hall (North) at the Aligarh Muslim University, Mr. Hasan Mahmood Mohammed Al Jawarneh, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to India, said that this University is globally known for teaching various subjects and disciplines to students coming from different parts of the world. He said that there were a number of students from Jordan receiving education at AMU and this academic relation will develop India-Jordan relationship in different fields.


The Jordanian Ambassador said that at present there are over 500 Jordanian students pursuing higher studies in different universities of India and the number of alumni of Indian universities in Jordan has gone over 2500. He confirmed that there were about 90 Jordanian students getting education at AMU.

Highlighting the diplomatic relations between India and Jordan, Mr. Jawarneh said that the two countries signed first bilateral agreement in 1948. He said Jordan has extended all support for India over its candidature for a permanent seat in United Nations’ Security Council. He affirmed that India and Jordan had attained 66 years of friendship and collateral relationship.

Mr. Jawarneh hoped that AMU will act as a bridge to further the relationship between India and Jordan.

Mr. Mohd. Abdul Haq, General manager (Operations) Figero Conserva Allana Pvt. Ltd. graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

In his presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah appreciated the efforts of Prof. Arshi Khan, as Provost, for improving the living conditions and assured more funds for the development of this historical Hall of residence.

Lt. Gen. Shah said that Jordan is a modern country and its relationship with India has always been very cordial and friendly. He urged the Jordanian Ambassador to encourage more Jordanian students to take admission in AMU.

Appreciating the efforts of Allana Group in providing financial support for University projects, Lt. Gen. Shah said that this group has provided One Crore rupees for restoration of Strachey Hall to its former glory. He said that the group has also provided One Crore rupees more for the management Complex.

The Vice Chancellor urged the students to pursue their studies with full commitment and dedication. He said that no power on the earth would stop them from succeeding if they had the power of knowledge.

Welcoming dignitaries, Prof. Arshi Khan, Provost of the S. S. Hall (North) said that AMU is not an ordinary University as it is known for its Tarbiyat (cultural training) and high moral values. He said that AMU has emerged as a symbol of international friendship.

Prof. Khan urged the Vice Chancellor to provide more funds to this unique and historical Hall of residence.

Mr. Mohd. Norain Khan, Senior Hall presented the annual Hall report and highlighted the achievements of students. He said that 28 resident members of this Hal had cleared NET/JRF and GATE examinations in different subjects.

Mr. Norain Khan said Mr. Jalaluddin Tabish and Mr. Mohd. Imtiyaz Alam were awarded Fulbright Fellowship for Foreign Language Teaching  Assistance Programme, USA. He hoped that under the guardianship of the Provost Prof. Arshi Khan, all round development of the Hall will continue.

On this occasion, the chief guest and the Vice Chancellor presented mementos to students and wardens.

Senior Food, Mohd. Shahid Khan also addressed the students. Dr. Nasim Ahmad Salati, Warden proposed a vote of thanks.
