Book on animals in the Holy Quran released

ALIGARH: “Eat and drink, but waste not by excess, for Allah loveth not the wasters”, reminded Dr. Mohd. Iqtedar Husain Farooqi, while highlighting the Quranic injunctions regarding the flora and fauna, and animals at a book release ceremony organized by the Ibne Sina Academy.
The ceremony, which was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, in the gracious presence of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali, saw releasing of two books of Dr. Farooqi “Animals in the Holy Quran” and “Dictionary of Flora and Fauna of Quran”.

Making a special reference to the animals and plants mentioned in the holy Quran, Dr. Farooqi said, “Biological diversity means the variety of life forms of different categories in a region or on the globe and protecting this diversity on Earth is prime duty of all Muslims”.

He said that Allah warns the man, “And when he turneth away (from thee) his efforts in the land is to make mischief therein and to destroy the crops and cattle; and Allah loveth no mischief”.

Reciting several verses from the Holy Quran, Dr. Farooqi made it clear that “Allah does not like those who create disturbances (mischief), whether ecological or otherwise on Earth”.

In his presidential address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah congratulated Dr. Farooqi on bringing out such novel works in a scientific manner. He hoped that Dr. Farooqi’s works will go a long way teaching the man his responsibilities towards other creatures.

Lt. Gen. Shah also assured the AMU community that AMU will win the minority status case in the Supreme Court. He said that “when we had support from political dispensation, we lost the case, and now when there is no support, we will, if Allah wishes, win the case in all likelihood”.

Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. Ali gave hearty compliments to Dr. Farooqi for his literary passion despite his scientific engagements.

Prof. Hakeem Syed Zillur Rahman, President, Ibne Sina Academy conducted the programme and a large number of AMU faculty members including Prof. Razaullah Ansari, Prof. Tariq Mansoor, Prof. M.H. Beg, Prof. Shakeel Samdani and Dr. Rahat Abrar were present on the occasion. Mrs. Sabiha Simi Shah also graced the function. Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman proposed a vote of thanks.
