Aligarh:The AMU Indian
Concrete Institute Student Chapter was recently inaugurated in the Department
of Civil Engineering, Aligarh
Muslim University.
While attending the
programme, former AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Shamim Ahmad lauded the
efforts of the Department of Civil Engineering and the ICI Western UP Centre
for the establishment of Student Chapter.
He urged the faculty
members and the students to take full advantage of the patronage of the industry
experts in sharpening their technical and professional skills.
Sharing his views on
the changing technological scenario, Prof Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, Dean Faculty of
Engineering and Technology advised the future technologists to be ready to face
the challenges that lie ahead.
Dr Rajeev Goel, Principal
Scientist, Bridges and Structures Division, Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi and Vice
President (North), Indian Concrete Institute, in his address appreciated the
efforts of the department and urged the students and faculty members to
actively participate in various activities of the Indian Concrete Institute and
various Student Chapters spread across the region.
Er P C Sharma, former
Head Materials Division, Structural Engineering Research Centre, Ghaziabad and founder
President, ICI Western UP Centre Ghaziabad highlighted the role of professional
bodies in the training of future engineers. He further briefed about the
contributions of the ICI in the Concrete Construction Practices and
Technologies.
Er A K Sharma, former
Director General, Central Public Works Department, New
Delhi and President, ICI Western UP Centre, Ghaziabad stressed upon enhanced industry
institute interaction and the role of Indian Concrete Institute in bridging
this gap. He assured of best possible support from the centre to the AMU
Student Chapter.
While welcoming the
guests, Prof Mohammed Arif, Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering said that
the Indian Concrete Institute is nationally acclaimed professional organization
in the field of concrete construction technology and practice. He outlined the
importance of the ICI Student Chapter and also presented a brief profile of the
Department of Civil Engineering.
Dr Mohd Shariq,
Cordinator, AMU ICI Student Chapter proposed the vote of thanks. Mr Mohammed
Bilal and Mr Shahbaz Ahmad conducted the programme.
