Dr. Ahmad Raza Khizri said that India and Iran has contributed greatly to the promotion of Persian language and literature during Akbar and Safavids’ period and deliberations in the seminar would help researchers trace the literary trends of that period. He congratulated Prof. Azarmi Dukht Safavi, Director, Institute of Persian Research Aligarh Muslim University for organizing such a wonderful Seminar.
Prof. Iqtidar Hussain Siddiqi, Chief Guest, appreciated the efforts of the Institute of Persian Research in bringing the scholars together to discuss an important aspect of development of Persian language and literature in India.
Appreciating papers of the seminar, Prof. Tahir Ali said that these papers would contribute greatly towards the promotion of Persian studies in India.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. Azarmi Dukht Safavi said that Akbar’s reign was the golden period of Persian language and literature in India. New dimensions in different genres of poetry and prose writings have been noticed emerging during this period. Tracing the critical condition of Persian literature and poetry under Safavids during the same period, Prof. Safavi said that hundreds of Iranian scholars and poets migrated to India and settled here. Akbar’s court historian, Abul Fazl laid down a new trend in history writing and his gigantic works A’in-i-Akbari and Akbarnama have been universally acknowledged as greatest history books produced in medieval India. A’in-i-Akbari’s third volume is an encyclopaedia about India’s history and culture.
Prof. Safavi pointed out that one of the Akbar’s significant contributions to knowledge and learning was the establishment of a Translation Bureau which took up the translation of Sanskrit and Hindi classics and religious books into Persian and vice versa. She said that despite valuable contributions of Akbar to Persian language and literature, enough attention has not been paid to encompass its various dimensions. The aim of the Seminar is to bring into sharper focus the variety and dimensions of Persian language and literature of this period.
Prof. Safavi said that during the three day Seminar, 12 academic sessions were held and 70 learned papers were presented, while 41 delegates from Iran, the largest number so far, participated in the Seminar. Besides Iran scholars from Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Bangladesh, UK and other parts of India also attended the seminar.

Mohd. Tahir Ali, Shantiniketan, Prof. Chandra Shekhar, Delhi, Dr. Haider Ali Dehmardeh, Zahidan, Iran, Dr. Mansoor Alam, Kolkata, Dr. Abdul Ghani Emaratwala, Bijapur, Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad, Kolkata and Prof. Umar Kamaluddin, Lucknow were present in the seminar.
