UGC HRD organizes cultural evening

Aligarh:The Aligarh Muslim University UGC Human Resource Development Centre recently organized a literary and cultural evening, which was attended by AMU teachers and scholars.Professor Seemin Hassan, Chairperson, Department of English and Prof Samina Khan recited their poems during the event. Prof Khan also expressed hopes that there will be more such cultural programmes in future.
Prof Ranu Uniyal, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Lucknow emphasized the importance of poetry in the modern world. She said that poets cannot remain indifferent to things that are happening around them. She also read poems from her published collection ‘Across the Divide’, and her forthcoming anthology ‘Saeeda ke Ghar’.
Fulbright scholar, Ms Kathleen Longwaters, University of Texas, USA read some of her published poems on life and human mortality while Prof Sami Rafiq, Department of English and Dr Fatima Khan, from JNMC, AMU enthralled the audience with their poems.Dr Faiza Abbasi felicitated the invited guests on behalf of the MHRD, UGC, AMU.
While conducting the programme, Dr Akbar Joseph, on behalf of the organizers, paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 68th year of martyrdom and prayed for peace and national solidarity.Dr Aysha Munira sang a motivational Nazm (poem) of Faiz Ahmad Faiz and later recited its English translation in the conclusion of the programme.
